World AIDS Day Walking Vigil with the Sisters
The Portland Sisters will once again honor World AIDS Day with a walking vigil, bringing the Veils of Shame and Remembrance to the community. The Veil of Shame bears the words and phrases that has been used against our community to bring us shame. The Sister wearing this veil will symbolically carry this weight and then the Veil will be destroyed at the end of the evening, releasing the burdens of those words. The Veil of Remembrance will carry the names of those who have passed in our community, especially those touched by HIV/AIDS. This veil is not destroyed but will be kept in the Sisters’ archives.
We will meet at Casey’s (412 SW 4th Ave) at 7:30pm and end at CC Slaughter’s with the burning of the Veil of Shame. Walk with us, or meet us along the way.
This event takes place regardless of weather.
